Postponing budget cuts will not be tolerated by the European commission said minister of finance Jan Kees de Jager during a debate in parliament. De Jager urges the governing parties to adhere to EC regulations: “The notion of putting of the cuts is too optimistic” said the minister.
Current forecasts indicate a 4.6% budget deficit in 2013. EU regulations state that the budget deficit are not to surpass 3 percent. The European commission announced a deadline set on the 30th of April for the Dutch governing parties- VVD, CDA, PVV- to present the budget cut plans for 2013
Labour party member Ronald Plasterk stated his concerns with grave budget cuts. The cabinet will have to cut 16 billion euros to reach EU regulations and Plasterk proposes that this could harm the labour market, have adverse effects on the economy and urges the cabinet to negotiate alterior measures with the European Commission.
